Welcome to the Housing Hub website for the Town of Creston. Our goal is to offer a complete source of information for homeowners, builders, contractors, housing associations, and anyone else interested in housing within the Creston area.
This website is designed for easy-to-access information. Whether you’re a first-time home buyer looking to understand the process of purchasing a home, or a contractor looking for information on permits and inspections, you’re at the right place.
In addition to providing housing information, we also offer a variety of resources and tools to help you make informed decisions. For example, our grant and rebate information can help you save money on your next home improvement project, while our resources tab can help you access information on all of the housing societies available in Creston.
Housing is considered unaffordable when a household spends more than 30% of their pre-tax income on shelter costs (rent, mortgage, utilities, etc.). Unfortunately, approximately 45% of Creston households don’t have affordable housing, and 18% are in an Extreme Core Housing Need. There is also a shortage of rental units (less than 1% vacancy rate).
The Town of Creston has implemented a number of measures to encourage new housing development, protect renters, and give homeowners more flexibility to add secondary suites, garden suites and carriage houses, and planning continues with more initiatives to come.
The heart of the issue is that there aren’t enough appropriately sized and priced housing options to support the diverse needs and demands of our population. In particular, there are not enough entry-level homes and smaller units. There are many things we can do to tackle this issue. If you’ve been thinking about building a rental suite, selling your vacant land to support a housing development, or have other housing-related plans you’re considering, we encourage you to get in touch with Town staff.
Thank you for visiting our website and we hope that you find the information you need. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. You can also sign up on Let’s Talk Creston to contribute your thoughts, ideas and feedback.
